You might not know it, but nestled snugly in the village of Appleton, the Old Mill Manor is attracting international travellers from around the world to enjoy Canadian food, drink and culture like never before.

The history of the home, it’s old-world décor and modern-day comforts, along with the charm of the quaint village of Appleton and the neighbouring communities make it a natural venue for family get-togethers and corporate retreats and the perfect backdrop for girls’ weekend get-togethers and romantic getaways.

The Old Mill Manor was built in 1842, in the village of Appleton alongside the Mississippi River. It was built by Joseph Teskey and planned by his wife, Margaret Cuthbert and was the homestead of the Teskey & Collie families who ran the local mill. This modified Scottish Georgian home is one of the only two known examples in Canada – designed in two parts joined by a four-door rectangular hallway to separate the main home from the servant quarters.

Today the stately yet remarkably cozy property is the picture of elegance. The Old Mill Manor is a comfortable & beautifully furnished space perfect for entertaining, special dinner parties, dining, cooking & sleeping. The hosts provide everything you need for your special event or stay, including antique dishes, tea sets, silver & wine glasses. In fact, owners Julie Odin and Gary Lavers add special touches to each stay depending on the needs of their clients and can provide catered dinners, high tea, romantic carriage rides, and have even been known to provide butler service for special events.

The two and half storey home, also boasts a saltwater pool, hot tub, 1 acre of private gardens and waterfront access to the might Mississippi along with everything you would ever need to enjoy the property and water including kayaks, canoe, golf clubs, bikes, fishing rods, fire pit, gas BBQ and even croquet. The property has six bedrooms and can accommodate 12 guests.

It is conveniently located within walking distance to the Mississippi Golf Club, the Aveda Spa, the Appleton boat launch and just minutes drive to Carleton Place and Almonte.

Guests rave about the property. Lynne visited just this summer with family from England and Scotland and states, “I could go on and on about this wonderful property, our super hosts and the area. If you’re looking for the perfect spot for a family holiday, couples’ weekend or reunion, look no further. Julie and Gary will do everything to make your stay unforgettable.”

But the best thing about the property, – you don’t have to be from around the globe to book this amazing space. Plan your own local girls’ weekend, yoga retreat or family getaway. The Old Mill Manor is an Airbnb super-host and is rated 5 stars on Cottages in Canada and HomeAway. They can be found on the Chamber website under accommodations.
